VFA-31 is a United States Navy Strike Fighter Squadron also known as the "Tomcatters". The squadron was established on 1 May 1946 and is based at Naval Air Station Oceana, Virginia. The squadron specializes in maritime and air-to-ground operations and is equipped with F/A-18E Super Hornet aircraft. The Tomcatters have participated in several conflicts, including the Korean War, Vietnam War, Gulf War, and Operation Enduring Freedom. The squadron has received numerous accolades and awards throughout its history, including the Naval Air Force Atlantic Battle Efficiency "E" award, the Chief of Naval Operations Safety "S" award, and the Meritorious Unit Commendation.
